Short Bio

Although Duke always seems to get a top 3 recruit, Marvin Bagley III is as legit it gets with a top player. What makes Bagley so special is that he reclassified as a freshman, as he was able to graduate early to be able to commit to Duke this past summer. What's even crazier is that he only has two total years of high school basketball under his belt since he sat out of playing his sophomore year because he transferred schools and wasn't allowed to play. Bagley is a once in a generational talent, and barring injury, he should easily be a top draft pick for next year's NBA draft. (*Fun Fact: Bagley's Duke number (#35) is actually retired, but Bagley asked Danny Ferry [who wore #35 and is retired by him] if he can use it and Ferry said yes.)

Role on the Team

Currently, Bagley is leading Duke in scoring and rebounding, and he should be one of Duke's top scorers along with Grayson Allen and Gary Trent, Jr. Also, look for him to be a double double threat with 10+ points and 10+ rebounds each night. However, although Marvin is offensively one of Duke's best players, one of his weaknesses includes his free throw shooting. And although he doesn't shoot three-pointers at a high percentage, it's more of an upside than a weakness. Look for Marvin to get to the free throw line often, but in order for him to be considered one of the best offensive playrs in the country, he has to start converting at the foul line.

Video Highlight

I included a youtube highlight video of when Marvin Bagley III played against NBA-level talent (such as Chris Paul, James Harden, and DeMar DeRozan) in the Drew League over the summer. This video will hopefully give you a better glimpse of just how good he is and what he can do.
